Are Your Biggest Earning Days Over? Not If You Don't Want Them to BE!

Does It HAVE to be that Way?

It doesn't HAVE to be that way.  By distinctly working to create expertise in areas that your peers in the industry or field that you are in have not- you can capitalize on knowledge that can keep your salary climbing for several more years.  Are you in healthcare?  Become brilliantly knowlegeable about Meangingful Use stages 1 and 2.  Become an expert on the HITECH act.  Learn about security.  Explore alternate models of healthcare in other countries.  We have a big dilemma to solve- try to increase your education to add innovation and creativity in a field that lacks it greatly.

Are you in retail, manufacturing or engineering?  There are ways in each of these fields  that you can expand your knowledge to move your organizations forward.  Consider a path explaining the steps necessary to expand your brand and increase your value in my recent book, Brand YOU.  

If we sit back and let our career paths build themselves, and we are unaware of our brand or how to best position and GROW our skillsets and knowledge, than the article will ring true, every time.  Our earnings will cap off and then they will proceed to decline for the remainder of our earning years.

Take CHARGE!

Take charge of your career path and journey.  Explore options to increase your expertise and specialties.  Find ways to 'stand out from the crowd' to maximize your worth to an organization and your ability to move them forward.  Companies crave true thought leaders and innovators.

YOU own the determining factors in whether this statistic will become your reality or whether it will be debunked because of your ability to uniquely position yourself to increase your earning potential when others can not. Go prove them wrong!

How many hours a day do you work?  How many years do you think you'll have this job?  You work  8 , 9, or 10 hours a day and you will have this job 3, 4 or 5 years....

How many hours a day do you spend caring for your health?  How many years do you think you will have your body?  Many of you are spending 0 hours and 0 minutes exercising or caring for our health- - - yet we (hopefully) will have our body for (let's hope) MANY MANY years.

You've sat at your desk and toiled away, a long list of 'to do's' have waited for you today.  Everyone wants something, the lines are long- there are those waiting- wanting you to toil along.

Your smile is gone and you've collected a frown, the joy is gone and you are feeling down.  Well- this blog's for you.

For everyone that has let circumstances affect your mood, I want you to consider the blessings around you that exude- - - - - from every nook and cranny that ensues...

• Think of your health and your access to health care.  You are healthy and able to communicate and move.  Think of those that can't-think of those that can't move.
• Think of the warmth of your house.  I walked into the parking garage tonight and it was warmer than outside.  I wondered how it felt for those that sleep outside.  We have the warmth of our houses in which to hide.
• Think of family and friends that love us dearly.  We are surrounded by love and a blanket of warmth.  We are enjoying the friendships of life.

There are really so many many things to be thankful for.  For each of us, each day of the year- I hope that you can enjoy the ride, enjoy the life, and in happiness abide.

Health Care Reform- - -the debate rages on

I have been in health care my entire career.   For twenty five years I've worked in various components of health care delivery.  I've watched innovation rock every facet of our lives.  I think of how dramatic the changes have been in every area of our lives. 

Eight Tracks to CDs to digital music players...stoves to microwaves...big thick televisions to LCD panel TVs...hand written tax forms to Turbotax...hand written architectural drawings to online drawings...writing music by hand to writing music on a computer...all these things have dramatically changed in the last 25 years.

So- it was a bit shocking to walk through a medical facility the other day that felt, looked, and resembled an exact replica of a medical center that I walked through 25 years ago.  The charts were neatly organized and handwritten exactly as they were 1/4 of a century ago.  Medication carts delivered medicine with nurses that used sticky notes to track the meds to enter later for charging purposes.  Teams of clinicians were delivering care without automated tools.

I recognize that as the health care reform debate rages on.... I am less concerned with the minute details as much as an overall awareness that we are NOT MOVING FORWARD fast enough.  OVERALL, we have not progressed in SEVERAL FACETS of healthcare delivery.  Technology has moved forward, yes, but the percentages of hospitals that are using it is disparagingly low.  Whatever solution we end on...let's be sure that we find a healthcare solution that promotes the ADVANCEMENT of solutions for healthcare delivery .  Let's select a solution that encourages EVERY hospital to automate and MOVES these hospitals to a future that barely resembles healthcare from 25 years ago.

 

Let's move the ball forward....standing still is not an option
